Nan's Diary, June 5
My, it's been a busy weekend. I've been getting up ever so early to catch all the excitement on the telly. I've felt a bit dozy in the afternoons, mind, but then again something like this doesn't come along every day, does it? It just makes you that proud to be English.
Yes, the Jubilee's been the real highlight of they year so far, apart from when Elsie Tanner died and I got first dibs on her collection of pot pourri baskets. Fifty years, eh? When she came to the throne I was just a tiny girl, a young tyke of 28. My I've seen some changes, I can tell you.
When Her Majesty came to the throne you could buy a pound of tripe for ninepence. Now you're lucky to get it at all, although I bet The Queen can have as much as she likes and that's telling.
I wonder where that Tom has got to? He seems to be keeping very unusual hours these days. He sneaks out every night without a whisper, and he always seems to be dead beat in the days. Probably just excited about the Jubilee.
I'll have to keep my eye on him.
